Project Focus: Summer Uni 2009

Way back in March we posted a sneak preview of the new creative campaign we created for Tower Hamlets Summer University’s (THSU) summer programme. Now fully rolled out, a Project Focus seems in order.

Since 2005, we have been actively engaged by THSU — a pioneering charitable organisation running a vibrant and fun programme of courses, activities and volunteering opportunities for 11–25 year olds throughout the year — to produce a range of print collateral in a variety of formats.

This year’s summer programme started off with a relatively open brief, which provided us with the freedom to combine our creative skills of hands-on craft, illustration and digital to create the overarching campaign theme (shot below showing one of the paper models we built for the main cover background).

Main Cover Model

Collateral design, layout and typography was complemented by a creative toolbox of imagery (paper models/cuttings and illustrations) which we developed and applied across the course (76 page) brochure, fold-out ‘passport’ piece, postcard, posters and print ads. Print was sustainably sourced, procured and managed by us using a 100% recycled, uncoated stock.

It has been an absolute dream working with Roz, Nic and the Minx Creative team. On top of their design skills, they are excellent communicators which is so important when managing big projects. Their calm and methodical approach to a job is so reassuring, and on top of that they bring so much creativity to the table. They completely engage with what we do as an organisation, it really does feel like they are part of our team when we are working on a project. They take on feedback and ideas directly from our young people, which is really important to us. Minx go out of their way to ensure we are happy with their work — from the early stages of planning, budgeting and sourcing, proofing and amendments, right through to delivery, which is something I have come to rely on. They completely jump in head first into a project, and are with us all the way.
